Baby Thomas’s First Portrait Shoot

We had a wonderful portrait session recently with Thomas and his mum & dad, Geraldine and Lawrence. Like many of our customers, they have decided to make Sydney Australia their new home. Having come from the UK and France.

As many of the photographs will be heading to their family overseas, it was decided that Sydney Harbour would make the perfect location. Plus it’s near our portrait studio.

Thomas was the most amazing baby. Hyde Park Sydney was selected for their pre wedding photography shoot. We wanted a place that offered some shelter from this crazy Sydney summer we’re having. Sasha an I.T guy with Wolverine facial hair and Sarah a nurse are a bit quirky. They wanted to have some fun and enjoy the portrait photography experience. So we ditched the more tradition poses early on and just let them enjoy each others company. Although not traditionalists they loved St Mary’s Cathedral (who doesn’t) as a backdrop. So we walked over to have some more fun there too. We’re looking forward to their wedding very soon at Australis Retreat at Wisemans Ferry.

Sydney Morning Hearld Photography Competition “Shoot The Chef” Finalist

The studio is pleased to announce that Justin Mackintosh the studios principal photographer is finalist in this years “Shoot The Chef” photography competition and exhibition. It’s actually the forth year in a row that he is a finalist.

“It’s a great competition because you have to really think outside of the box and push yourself to create a truly inspired image. The brief is to photograph someone involved with food. It could be your mum or a celebrity chef.
The competition has being going four 13 years and is held during the Sydney Morning Hearlds Good Food Month. Now called the Crave Sydney International Food Festival. I’ll keep you posted when I find out later this month if I win the big prize……….”

“This year I photographed Ian “Herbie” Hemphill from Herbies Spices in Rozelle Sydney. I wanted to create an adventurous image. Telling the story of Herbie flying his 1940′s Tiger Moth back from one of his exploratory journeys in search of the worlds most exotic herbs and spices.”

Wedding Fashion Shoot

Hello and sorry for gap between posts. Busy busy busy …….. which is great of course. Recently we had the thrill of shooting the front cover for a fantastic bridal wedding magazine, The Leading Wedding Venues in NSW. It will soon be published…. so stay tune and I’ll let you know when it hits the shelves. Here are some of our favorite images from the shoot. The stunning location was at Sydney University. The university has some very beautiful wedding reception venues and as well inspiring wedding photography locations. Like The Great Hall (very Harry Potter) and the Quadrangle at the University of Sydney is probably the most significant group of Tudor Gothic buildings in Australia. They form the symbolic and functional heart of the University.

White Bay Power Station Rozelle

This local historic icon was recently opened to photographer’s to explore this fantastic building. It was originally built around the time of the First World War and was extended in the 1950′s. The coal power station was build to supply power to Sydney’s Tram and Rail networks. The power station was decommissioned in in mid 1970′s.

For a bit of trivia the Matrix Film Trilogy was also partly film there. The site is on prime Sydney Harbour Real Estate (just outside our studio’s door) where developers have being licking their lips for years to get their hands on it. So far to no avail, thank goodness. It will remain in the public’s hand but in what form is unknown. It has being suggested it should be a great art institution like the Tate museum. We’ll have to wait and see.

Moran Contemporary Art Prize

Each year the studio enters a number of photographic art competitions. These competitions are a terrific way of pushing ourselves and the envelop and shoot subjects that we perhaps would not normally shoot. It an exciting way of keeping us fresh and inspired, which in turn is a great benefit for our clients. Plus of course there is the thrill or disappointment in finding out the results.

But what’s very exciting is when our comissioned work is recognized in these art prizes. One such image is the beautiful bride and groom below. This was one of the last images I shot for Alison & Raymond. Their wedding was held at the historic warehouse building of the Italian Village at Campbells Cove, Sydney. While relaxing down stairs before making their grand entrance I grabbed this fleeting moment. It feels like a stills shot from a glamorous 1950′s Hollywood film set. This image was a semi finalist.

A Nautical Wedding on Sydney Harbour.

The wedding of Katie & Pete was really exciting. With so many beautiful touches with amazing details. The wedding was all centered around our wonderful Sydney Harbour. The bride and groom arrived as at the ceremony location which held on a wharf in Balmain by water taxi. As did the brides page boy and cute flower flower girls. The guests enjoyed their own Sydney harbour experience by arriving at the ceremony via the Sydney ferry the Borrowdale. Did I mention it rained, actually it poured right during the ceremony. But it didn’t matter! Everyone was still so happy and just loved the ceremony. The reception venue was the wonderfully quirky Balmain Sailing Club. Katie went to amazing efforts with room and table details. Awesome day!!

Last week I had the wonderful pleasure of capturing baby Oliver at his mum & dad’s home near our studio in Sydney. I already new his parent’s well because I photographed their wedding at Pyrmont just the year earlier.
